Some homes aren’t meant to be “forever”, and that’s ok! But if you visualize the home growing with you, there are options. For designs that accommodate a second story addition, we recommend framing the first floor in heavier lumber. This small expense eliminates one roadblock when it’s time to expand. If the plan is to add a wing on one side of the home, some rearranging of the interior ahead of time may help eliminate an awkward flow of traffic.
